Short.Sharp.Stories and All About Writing invite you to attend our FREE short story workshops.

This will be an immersive WRITING experience specifically for writers wanting to submit to the Short.Sharp.Stories POWER anthology, but all short story writers are welcome.

You will have the opportunity to explore what POWER means to you and to find a way into writing on the theme.

The call for stories is to LIGHT THE DARK. We'll encourage you to nurture a story from an initial spark, whether a candle flame, or the power of speech, the power of speed, the power of electricity, the power of creation, whatever power means to you - and to develop your ideas into a more complex short story.

Each workshop will offer something new, so you are welcome to attend both.

This will be useful to seasoned writers as well as emerging and new writers.

The Anthology:

Short.Sharp.Stories invites writers to LIGHT THE DARK with their imaginative short stories around the theme of POWER: the power of speech, the power of speed, the power of electricity, the power of creation. Amandla – Power! – signifies a mighty lion’s roar.

Whether the spark is a candle flame, or casting a vote, please send in your short story of between 3000 to 5000 words, with a strong narrative drive, for this anthology to be published April/ May 2025. The emphasis of the call is to share in the celebration of South Africa’s 30-year democracy and all it has meant – positive as well as problematic – to the empowerment of the people.
